reset your health in 2021 with 30 Days to Healthy LIving! (Invest in your health. Don’t miss the details at the end of this post.)
This post is part of my 12 Mini Goals Challenge.
Small daily habits can make a big difference over the course of a few weeks, months, or even longer. In 2016, I am going to focus on a new habit or mini goal every month.
The January Mini Goal: Daily Movement
While I get 45 minutes of cardio in a few days per week, I am realizing how little exercise I get on the days I don’t get a workout in. This is especially true in the middle of winter when there are many days that my daughters and I are in the house all day. I would be disappointed to see the number of steps I take some of those days.
My goal in January is to move for at least 10 minutes every day. This could be a quick walk outside, a short online workout video, or a few sets of burpees and other floor exercises.
If you want to join me, print off the January Movement Tracker. Every day you meet your goal, place an X on the day.
Feel free to set your own daily goal. You can instead track the number of reps you are shooting for. You can track the number of steps you take each day. If variety is key to your exercise, list a few ideas of what activities you want to do throughout the month. It will help if you start the month with a list of ideas, so if you get bored you already have a few ideas written down.
Here are a few ideas to get started:

I love the idea of mini challenges! That way you focus on one goal at a time until you got it into your routine. I would love to have you link this up to my #GratitudeGoals linky.

I love this idea! I have definitely noticed a decrease in steps on the days I don’t work out. This is so motivating!
Emily says
I haven’t been tracking my steps, but I have a feeling mine would be so much less on off days! So I am hoping 10 minutes of exercise helps balance that out. Thanks for stopping by!
Jennifer says
What a great idea! I was just about to head outside for some fresh air and a walk to the park! So often I focus on training for a race, getting my weight down, or a set amount of miles. I really need to be active just to be active. I love the idea of tracking this daily. Thanks so much for the idea!
Emily says
I definitely think that focusing on training for a race is a good thing! I just am realizing that I don’t get much activity on days I don’t workout, so I’m trying to add something to my “off” days.

Making mini goals is a great idea. I too am hoping to add more exercise into my daily routine. Good luck to us both!

I love this idea! I need to find a way to keep myself accountable and this mini goal challenge looks like the perfect way! And I like the idea of focusing on one goal at a time. Sometimes we try to do too many things at the same time.
Emily says
I agree that it’s easier to focus on just a goal or two at a time. Then hopefully they become habits and you don’t even have to think about it. :)

Thank you so much! This is just what I needed to get me moving everyday. The beginning of December I had major surgery on my left foot and ankle, and because of the pain it’s been hard to find motivation to get up and get moving. Thanks again!

This is one of my goals for sure! Thanks!

I walk to and from work everyday and am on my feet whilst I’m there, so don’t have to worry too much about this myself.

I definitely need to be getting more exercise regularly. My goal is to start with 15 min on the treadmill and build from there. I just started this morning! Something I read recently help me. “I’m NOT going to feel more like it tomorrow!” Visiting from Women with Intention. Blessings!
Emily says
Off to a great start! I hope it becomes a habit. :)

Emily says
Let me know if you decide to set mini-challenges of your own. Thanks for stopping by!

I love those pinned images. I find that on days that I’m off from work, I really have to be intentional about movement or else I’m sitting most of the day! I try to get a run in on those day to jumpstart the day.
Emily says
Running is the perfect way to start the morning! I always feel great when I start the day with a few miles. The weather doesn’t allow for that right now though. :)
Cait says

Thanks for stopping by, Cait!

Hey Em! Just printed the January moving challenge. Great printable :) It’s so cliche’ to want to exercise and manage weight each January…but I really need to do both. With baby girl hitting 6 months soon there is no time like the present!! Thanks for the motivation…
Emily says
Hey Leah! I just saw your comment. Thanks for stopping by and saying hi. :)
I hope you are finding the printable helpful!

Love your tracker! I’m doing something similar, I got a FitBit for Christmas so I am setting a daily goal of steps to reach. Some days I hit it with no problem but it also is making me aware of a few days where I could be a little bit more active.
Emily says
I just started using my mom’s old FitBit and it’s shocking how few steps I take when it’s freezing cold out! It sure is a motivating tool!
