Have you received invites to holiday parties and get-togethers? The time is coming when your calendar may be filling up with invites to Christmas parties, dinners, or cookie-baking days. You may even be planning overnight stays at your friend’s and family’s homes. If you want to show up with a gift of appreciation and holiday cheer for your host, I have a few hostess gift ideas for you.
(Updated 2020: Even if you are not invited to as many holiday get-togethers this year, you can still brighten someone’s day by sending them one of these gifts!)
There is no need to blow your holiday budget on extravagant gifts, as your host will appreciate even a small gesture.
WINE
Wine is a great gift as the host can decide if they want to serve it right then and there. Or they can save the bottle for later. Winc has a special promo and I ordered 4 bottles of wine from Winc for under $35. You can use this link to get $20 off your first order!
Winc has low sulfur wine, low sugar wine, organic wine, and vegan options. I enjoyed picking my bottles out and enjoyed getting it shipped to my door. You can get 4 bottles to bring to your next holiday party for under $35. I’d say that’s a great deal on wine!
Use this Winc promo to save $20 on your first order!
Another one to try is Wine Awesomeness. Get $25 Off + Free Shipping on your first 6-Bottle Membership Box

Scarf or Other Homemade Gift
If you don’t want to show up with another holiday trinket or decoration that your host may not want, consider a handmade scarf for your host. It’s both a personal and useful gift.
Another idea for a handmade gift is soap. Try this recipe for milk and honey soap with lavender and oatmeal.
Do you have a special memory or family recipe that you share? Make the recipe and show up with a homemade batch. My cousin stayed with us this past weekend. She showed up with two containers of homemade applesauce. We both grew up eating our grandmother’s homemade applesauce. It was made with a Chinois Strainer and takes a looong time to get even a small batch. This was quite the gift in my eyes. Inexpensive…but a labor of love!
Candles or Essential Oils
I think most homeowners enjoy festive holiday scents in their home, especially when hosting a party in their home. Find a holiday-scented candle. Or give the gift of the Holiday Blends from Plant Therapy. The Holiday Blends include Spiced Apple Cider, Gingerbread, Candy Cane, Christmas Tree, Snow Flurries, Winter Wreath. (Grab $10 off your $25 purchase from Plant Therapy.) Plant Therapy even offers Free Shipping + Free Returns!
Hello Fresh
A Hello Fresh gift certificate would be the perfect gift after an extended stay at someone’s house. I’m sure they will be excited to pick a few recipes and have the fresh ingredients sent straight to their home. You have the option to select the date their e-gift will arrive. If you want to hand something directly to the hostess, bring a recipe card of your own and write the gift on the card. (Or grab $90 off with free shipping with this link.)
Christmas Mug
Pick a festive coffee mug for the hostess. Don’t forget to include a pound of their favorite coffee beans! (Like Bulletproof!)
Fresh Flowers
Flowers are a great gift when you are short on time. Your host will enjoy having flowers to brighten her house for the days following the event! Wrap in festive holiday-themed paper.
Board Game
Does your host or hostess enjoy games? If so, pick out a new game to add to their collection. Telestrations can be hilarious.

I hosted a Christmas party a few years ago and, in a sea of bottles of wine, the hostess gift that stood out the most was a handmade scarf that a friend had knitted for me. To this day, it’s one of my favorite scarves and reminds me of that fun night every time I put it on.
Emily says
What a fun memory to have every time you wear the scarf!
